Annual Letter to the Prime Minister on the health of ethical standards

In line with its Terms of Reference, the Ethics & Integrity Commission (EIC) has published its first annual letter to the Prime Minister, reporting on the health of standards in public life.

Coinciding with the first anniversary of the establishment of the EIC, the letter acknowledges where progress has been made but urges the government to accelerate standards reform in a range of areas, including the standards and conduct framework in local government and lobbying regulation.

“Progress has been made in a number of areas towards enhancing the arrangements for upholding high ethical standards. But there is much more to be done. We are calling on the Prime Minister to ensure that standards reform is accelerated and opportunities to deliver lasting improvements are not lost.”

Doug Chalmers, Chair, Ethics & Integrity Commission
